Director General's Foreword
Challenges and vision for the future
The local, regional and international economic and political arenas have witnessed several developments that bred more economic and security challenges for official institutions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Perhaps the most prominent of these developments and challenges are the security threats resulting from increase in the wave of terrorism in the world and the importance of the region from the geopolitical perspective, along with the challenges linked to the series of supply of goods in light of the doubling of trade and UAE's assuming the status of primary commercial gateway to the Middle East and the Near East.
Departing from the wise policy of the UAE that has been established by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may Allah be merciful to him), the sound instructions of His Highness, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State (may Allah protect him), and tactful follow-up by His Highness Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and the Ruler of Dubai (may Allah safeguard him), the Federal Customs Authority in the UAE has made as a strategic objective during the next stage establishment of a balance between the security of society and fair trade; under the motto "Towards secure society and fair trade".
Since it was founded five years ago, the Federal Customs Authority has succeeded through the toil and labor of its employees in establishing a high efficiency and quality federal customs system. It authority has also had a clear and effective imprint on the course of the GCC Customs, as well as on the work of Arab and international customs, through its participation in various committees on customs affairs.
However, the future remains tied to more challenges on economic and security levels, and - in the meantime – fraught with several hopes and ambitions for elevating of the banner of the UAE high in the global trade arena.
And in light of meticulous reading of the reality of future challenges and ambitions on the customs level, the FCA strategy for the coming years has targeted – as a basic element in the Federal government strategy – upgrading customs work in the state and affording proper climate for the growth of trade and achievement of full flow in the movement of goods, and at the same time bringing about social security in its all-inclusive sense.
And in response to the set strategic objectives, the authority's internet website is launched in its new form with the purpose of achieving greater connectivity between the authority and local and international individuals and institutions, hoping that its contents contribute to the achievement of desired objectives and portrayal of a sound image of the UAE and the customs sector in the perfect manner.
